My Birthday
Oct. 24th, 2004 10:15 pmAs several people have noted, today was my 39th birthday. (Of course I won't say how many 39th birthdays I've celebrated.) Naturally I want to thank all those who sent greetings on the LJ, and let everyone know what happened.
Trix surprised me good with her present. Recently I had obtained an iPod for use with my laptop. Trix got me a Bose iPod SoundDock, which acts as a set of speakers for the iPod and also allows remote control of the little darling. The only problem I have now is trying to figure out where to keep it so it will be accessible and also safe from marauding kitties. I'll probably put it where the boombox is in my room. I've been enjoying listening to the iPod at night before going to bed, while doing my bedtime reading.
Then, being a big Sarah fan, I went to see "The Grudge" today. Pretty good movie. I had never seen one of the Japanese neo-horror films before, and I was interested in what it would be like. I don't particularly care for the overly violent types of horror film, with all the gore and such. And I had understood that "The Grudge" didn't have too much of that. Actually, there was only a little gore. Most of the thrills and chills were from surprise. One funny note. Shortly after the film started I began to feel the need to visit the little boys room, which was fortunately just outside the door of the particular theater the film was being shown in. As I was leaving, I noticed some theater employees standing where they could see the film. When I came back, I heard noise on the soundtrack indicating that something scary either was about to happen or had just happened. Just then, one of the employees shouted something and rushed out of the theater in a big hurry. I think it was the black cat that had scared him.
After I got back home, Trix had fixed a very nice curry dinner and a birthday key-lime pie, so we ate that while we watched an excellent German detective film, called "The Scene of the Crime," which is a long-running German TV series. One of the local stations specializes in foreign material, and they broadcast a variety of foreign TV mystery series.
So, all in all, a pretty good day for a 39th birthday.
